First published in the UK as Tread Softly by W.H Allen this was Laymon's first "hardcover" and the first sale made by his current UK agent Bob Tanner.However, it was published under the pseudonym of Richard Kelly. In the US it was published as a paperback original under Laymon's real name.In 1992 Headline reissued the title as Dark Mountain (having already published a title "Tread Softly" by another author). This was the first trade hardback to credit Laymon as the author so is also of interest to collectors. As of this date there is still no US trade hardcover.
